In ‘Healthy Wonju’, the word healthy represents healthy mind, healthy body and healthy society. Above the green land written in a free-flowing font (representing wellbeing and a happy life) is the letter ‘H’ that represents an active person (representing energy), while the sunshine (that represents dreams and hopes of the future) were combined, while the sun that shines its rays represent harmony of its administrative district of 1 eub, 8 myeon and 16 dongs. Healthy Wonju expresses an assertive and positive image rather than being based on formalities to promote friendliness and unity of the city. In addition, it is the new symbol of the energetic and progressive Wonju city as a healthy city, while it is also used for urban communication.

The mountains represent Chiaksan, which is the most famous mountain of Wonju, while the three peaks present Birobong, Hyangnobong and namdae-bong. The 3 ellipses that grow in size from bottom up represents the united heart (will) of Wonju citizens for cooperation, unity and progress. The overall concept shows the clean and pleasant mountains of Wonju, while expressing the progressive spirit of Wonju to take the initiative in globalization.

The healthy city mark of Wonju was developed in accordance to the global healthy city mark market certified by WHO. Healthy city means its members are active and that it is a city in harmony. Thus, above the green leaves (nature, land) are buildings (symbols of cities) and an active person (activity of Wonju citizens) all harmonize to represent Wonju as a city of harmony. In addition, warm sunlight shines all of the healthy constituents of the city.
